    this is an email i sent to the mayor of Largo.I am writing this email because of something that has come to my attention. I opened the Newsweek magazine tonight and a read an article about Mr. Steven Stanton. Now I know that you feel that your actions were justified based on what you believe, however remember that there are some people out there who would take issue with your decisions. First of all I do believe that this decision was the result of a deep misunderstanding. We as humans need to realize that we live in a world that is changing all the time. Whether the change is good or bad the important thing is how we react to it. And from how this administration has reacted to the fact of knowing that Steven Stanton is in the process of changing from a man to a woman I can certainly see the problems that plague such a decision. Many people who are struggling with their identity have only to sit down and take a good long look at themselves in the mirror. Or they may consult a trusted friend or relative to help them discover what they do not see inside themselves. It is not so simple for those who are antagonizing over whether to become to a transsexual. Often the individual will lament and brood over the subject for long periods of time. Finding no one they can trust, many individuals will retreat into a shell. They will shut out other people, including family and keep to themselves, fearing human contact most do not make it in this world. And even when these individuals to take the chance and tell someone, they often times they are rejected by the ones they trust. It is these actions that will drive them over the edge. Many of these scorned individuals will not live to see another day. Suicide is common among this group of people, because the ones that they thought they knew, and trusted do not understand that they are becoming who they need to be. This does not mean that they are any less of a person. They are the same as they were before, just different on the outside. As the saying goes, beauty is found within. You must look within a person, to discover true beauty. And so far you have failed to see the ignorance in your behavior, in hindering a man in his quest of becoming what he truly knows he is meant to be. Even if that happens to be a woman.

    I agree with the views that anonymous just cited in the letter previously posted. I too am reacting to the article written in Newsweek about the plan to fire Mr. Stanton. There is too much hate and intolerance in the world and it usually comes from those professing to have moral superiority bestowed upon them by their particular brand of oraganized religion. Why does it matter if Mr. Stanton is a man or a womman. I honestly believe that he has struggled for a long time with this and he has not come to his decision lightly. So, unless Mr. Stanton can not do the job, and it appears that he is very good at his job, then why hate on this person. Come on, look to the sky and utter the phrase WWJD?B Crawford

    How can we express our support directly to Ms. Stanton? Recently the MIRA coalition did a wonderful job highlighting the plight of illegal immigrants who were put on planes to Texas without regard to their children. Two infants ended up in the hospital from dehydration because they were separated from their breastfeeding moms.How can we attract the same attention to this issue? It is such a blatent example of outright discrimination. Ms. Stanton hasn’t changed on the inside- she’s just being who she really is. Why does she have to lose her job? This is so outrageous that I’m sure we can motivate the quiet majority to speak.
