The Importance of Privacy to All of Us

I spent most of Friday and Saturday attending the annual meeting of a national privacy coalition. Topics for the conference included the Real ID Act, the Feds’ Employee Verification System, and privacy of medical records–all issues that are of vital impotance to trans people.

Generally NCTE is the only LGBT organization represented in policy coalitions focusing on privacy, which is not ideal, but some others now are starting to get involved in the trans privacy isues somewhat. Privacy (and related ID documentation work) has become a very large part of what NCTE does.

You’ll be hearing a lot more from us about these issues this year.
