NCTE to Honor SEIU, Gunner Scott, and Andrew Barnett at 9th Anniv. Event

From advancing critical health care and employment protections for transgender people to Vice President Joe Biden’s reaffirmation of transgender civil rights, our movement for equality has experienced renewed energy this year. Elected officials, fair-minded Americans, and allied lesbian, gay, and bisexual movement leaders now understand that progress must include transgender advocates at the table.

NCTE’s Ninth Anniversary event celebrates the advances of the last year. The event also honors transgender people who have pushed equality forward, and recognizes allies that continually find ways to make sure transgender people are treated fairly and equally.

gunnerstatehouse fullWe are proud to honor Gunner Scott, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition, with the Julie Johnson Founders’ Award for his deep commitment to transgender rights.  Julie Johnson, a Chicago-based transgender activist, spent her lifetime advocating for transgender equality despite the challenges of her own life.

This year’s Distinguished Ally is Andrew Barnett, Executive Director of the Sexual Minority Youth Assistance League (SMYAL), the only LGBTQ youth serving organization in Washington, D.C. Barnett is being recognized for his advocacy on behalf of transgender and gender non-conforming young people in the Metro Washington region.

The Community Partner Award is presented to an organization that has advanced transgender equality through action and activism. This year, the Service Employees International Union has earned this recognition for their outstanding efforts to expand access to health care for transgender people.

Please join us in celebrating them at our 9th Anniversary event: http://www.transequality.org/NinthAnniv.html.

  1. Yesterday, while I was at work, my cousin stole my iPad and tested to see if it can survive a 25 foot drop, just
so she can be a youtube sensation. My apple ipad is
now broken and she has 83 views. I know this is totally off topic but I had to share it with
    someone!
